Bio
Professor Florentine left Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980 and crossed the Charles River to start the Communication Research Laboratory at Northeastern University. Since its inception the laboratory has received continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health and supported the work of many students and post-doctoral research associates in an interdisciplinary atmosphere. Students and faculty across three colleges (Bouve, Arts and Sciences, and Engineering) work together to learn from and with one another.

Professor Florentine has authored or co-authored over 100 research papers on various topics related to hearing, including auditory neuroscience, basic processing and models of auditory processing in normal and impaired hearing, the ability of non-native listeners to understand speech in noise, cross-cultural attitudes toward noise, and hearing-loss prevention through education. She has served as a distinguished professor, or the equivalent, in Denmark, Germany, Japan, and the U. S. A. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and the Acoustical Society of America.
