Bio
Dr. Schlosser is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), a Fellow of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD), and a former Distinguished Switzer Fellow of the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. Currently, he is the founding joint editor-in-chief of the journal Evidence-Based Communication Assessment and Intervention. His research and scholarship relates to the efficacy and effectiveness of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) interventions for children with developmental disabilities such as autism and mental retardation. In addition, he is interested in evidence-based practice, and research methodology. Dr. Schlosser's research has been funded federally for the last decade. Most recently, he has been funded by NIDRR to develop EVIDAAC, a database of appraised evidence in AAC, together with colleagues from Australia (Drs. Raghavendra, Sigafoos), Canada (Dr. Eysenbach) and the U.S. (Drs. Dowden and Blackstone). Dr. Schlosser has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, two books, and 25+ book chapters. He has repeatedly received the Editor's Award for the most significant research article published in Augmentative and Alternative Communication. He currently serves as the Research Coordinator of ASHA's Division 12 and is on the Editorial Board of the following journals: American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Educational Psychology, Journal of Behavioral Education, Journal of Communication Disorders, Journal of Special Education Technology, Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, and Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Evidence-Based Practice

1. Asking well-built questions

Asking the right kind of question is arguably the most important step in the EBP process. The following
